Psalm for the Creator

Lorren Lemmons

For beloved bits of earth burrowed into my soul––

diamond-cold creek,

edged with yarrow and thimbleberry;

jagged canyon sheltered

by craggy peaks;

beachside cliffs watching

distant dolphins in the surf;

lichened cathedral of alders,

joining animal supplicants

beneath an emerald ceiling;

marsh dunes brimming with

feather and shell, baptized

in salt tides––

I thank Him

whose finger traced unshaped dust

trailing riches in its wake,

holy Jeweler setting stars in the velvet night,

brushing watercolors over the newborn horizon.
