Daughters of the Covenant
by Amber Elisabeth Sanders
With dust upon their feet,
They weep where grief and grace meet.
Not less than because of a fall,
But called by the Shepherd who knows all.
Their hands shake holding the weight of the lost,
Their prayers taste of salt as they count the cost.
As priesthood keys rest in appointed hands,
The power and healing flow through the lands.
Nothing lacking from the mercy seat
Where they kneel, undone, at His nail-scarred feet.
Christ atones with blood and with tears,
Silencing each and every one of their fears.
They rise in the night with an ache in their chest,
To sing Zion awake while the wounded still rest.
They come to Him fractured, yet He heals each heart,
As each woman rises to do her own part.
They cradle the broken, they kindle the flame,
To build up His kingdom in Jesus’ name.
Amber Elisabeth Sanders lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and is a member of the Shadow Mountain Ward in the Paradise Valley Stake. She writes from the messy middle of being a devoted wife of 18 years, a mother of three, and a ward missionary, relying daily on her anchor of faith. She is convinced that Christ is in the business of mending fractured hearts and trusting ordinary women to build Zion. Her words are written for anyone who has ever knelt at the mercy seat and stood back up to light a candle for someone else.
